DIY Pleated Skirt: Butterick 5285
I made this adorable pleated skirt from Butterick 5285. I've been wanting a pleated skirt for a while and bought this fabric specifically for that purpose. I've been seeing so many gorgeous pleated skirts on Pinterest so it's definitely been on my to sew list.
I actually wore this to work already and loved the outfit. (Notice my work badge..hehe.)
I will say that I've made a box pleated skirt muslin and it was much easier than following the pattern. But, the pattern wasn't difficult, at all.
If you know how to sew, just go ahead and cut fabric the width of your waist x 3 and whatever length you want and just pleat it on a dress form. (I just pleated mine on my cutting table.) Attach it to a waistband (4 in high x waist measurement) and attach a 9" zipper. Hem it and you're done.
I'd be happy to do a tutorial if you're interested!
Anywho, my fabric is a Polyester Shantung from lowpricefabric.com. It cuts and sews wonderfully. And I just adore the color. Navy goes with so many things that I know I'll get a lot of mileage out of this skirt. I have more fabric that I plan on making a dress with.
I paired it with an orange blouse and blue and white striped blazer from Express. My platforms are from DSW.
What do you think?
Have a great day!
