Pattern: Simplicity 8045 | Fabric: Golden D'or Fabrics (similar)
I grabbed Mimi G.'s spring patterns with Simplicity last week and promptly began sewing. This pattern is surprisingly easy to follow and would be a decent project for someone who is relatively new, but familiar with sewing.
I loved the shorter version and thought it'd be perfect for a date night with the hubs. I chose a yummy black and white striped double knit that I purchased from a local fabric store some time ago. Here is a similar fabric option.
For styling, I wanted to use a color to go against the black and white to give it a bit more pop! I paired my dress with my Roll-down clutch from Love Cortnie which I just love! My shoes are my favorite clearance find from DSW that I've bragged about snagging for $8 several times on the blog. :-) My necklace is from Target.
I did make a couple of very minor changes to the dress. I shorted the sleeves about 1.5 inches and I skipped the gathered effect at the side seams around the torso. The stripes are the focal point of this dress and I didn't want to disrupt them too much. Although gathering is very
concealing flattering, I wanted a smooth fit at the torso.
The collar is meant to fold over on top of the chest, but my double D's said Hell No, We Won't Go! So, if you've got a fuller bust like me, I suggest you size up for the collar portion of the dress or the collar will not stay around your bust.
I also added 2.5 inches to the length of the dress, per the usual.
Overall, I love the dress and can't wait to wear it on our next date night!
